Ericeira has no shortage of hostels, and at first glance, most of them look pretty similar.

It’s one of the more affordable options (from €17 a night), with a simple, no-frills setup that’s built around getting you in the water.

You’re within walking distance of Praia do Sul, one of the best beginner-friendly surf spots in Ericeira, which makes it really easy to rent a board and surf without overthinking logistics.

They also run surf camps, which shapes the whole atmosphere. A lot of people staying here are there to surf, so it naturally becomes a more social, like-minded environment.

If you want something social, surf-focused, and easy to base your days around the water, this is a great option.

WOT Ericeira Surf Social

This is the most budget-friendly option on the list (from around €10 a night), but it’s also one of the most lively.

WOT feels more like a playground than a traditional hostel. It’s the largest on this list, with a big swimming pool, a half pipe, games room, and a hammock garden, so there’s always something going on.

It attracts a very social crowd, and it’s the kind of place where it’s easy to meet people quickly and settle into the vibe.

From a surf perspective, you’re about a 15-minute walk from Praia do Sul, which is manageable, and they also offer surf lessons, so you can join group sessions and get taken to the best spots without needing to plan too much.

If you’re looking for something affordable, social, and a bit more energetic, this works really well.

Selina Boavista

Selina Boavista is the fanciest hostel on the list (from around €38 a night).

It’s especially popular with digital nomads, with multiple co-working spaces throughout. There’s also a rooftop pool, which adds to the relaxed, hangout vibe during the day.

It’s right in the centre of town, which makes it ideal for cafés, restaurants, and bars, and gives you a really easy, social base while you’re in Ericeira. You are a bit further from the surf though, so I’d recommend booking lessons so transport to and from the beaches is taken care of.

The 70’s Hostel

The 70’s Hostel is one of the highest-rated hostels in Ericeira, and it has a completely different feel to the others.

It’s small, cosy, and full of personality, with a colourful 70’s-inspired design that makes it feel a bit more unique and lived-in.

It’s also located slightly further north, which puts you closer to some of the more advanced surf spots. That’s part of the reason it’s popular with more experienced surfers, or people who want a slightly different setup from the main town centre.

For surfing day to day, you’ll still want to plan how you’re getting to the beach, whether that’s renting a car or booking lessons or guiding so transport is taken care of.

If you’re more focused on budget and meeting people, WOT is a good option.

If you want something more comfortable, Selina is your best bet.

And if you like the idea of somewhere smaller and with a bit more character, The 70’s Hostel is worth looking at.
